1. Promote Your Feed Prominently – One mistake that some blogs make is have their RSS feed link appearing too far down in the footer of the design. As with anything you want to promote (ads, key posts, contact form, about posts etc) the higher on the page you have it the more attention it will have.

2. Guest blogging – Guest blogging is perhaps the best way to market your blog and increase your subscribers. By doing a guest post in other blogs, you can reach a lot of new readers (especially if you do it on bigger blogs), show off your best content and it’s free (as opposed to advertising).

3. Give your feed readers a bonus – Something I’ve seen more bloggers doing of late is giving their readers an incentive to read. For example Chris Garrett offered a free ebook to any subscribers and it worked well for him. If you have the time to write a short e-book, make sure to give this a try.

4. Make sure your feed is discoverable – I learnt this the hard way a few months back when I did a redesign at one of my blogs and didn’t think to check whether the feed was discoverable (it wasn’t). As a consequence I lost at least a couple of months of new subscribers. More and more people use auto discovery via their browsers – make sure yours can be found and that it’s working to make this a more seamless subscription experience for potential readers.

5. Focus on one subject, one particular topic – Viewers come to your site because you have content that interests them. They are more likely to stay-and subscribe-if all your content, not just one article, interests them.

6. Put subscription information at the bottom of each post – A viewer who reads an interesting post may just click on a link to your RSS feed subscription page under that post. They like the post, they like your site. Make the most of this moment; don’t expect them to search for the RSS link. But make this link small so it doesn’t compete with the post.

To increase your subscriber count, it is important to stay persistent and consistent. As blog takes some time to take off, your effort will all go in waste if you quit half way through.

You’ve probably heard about blogging and how it has become a very good way of making money. It’s easy to do, it’s convenient, and it’s free. A clean, professional looking design usually works best by highlighting the information you have instead of the appearance that it comes in.

For the money-making part, put in in the ads or affiliate links. With each click you get for each ad, you’re going to be paid a certain commission. With affiliate links, you get paid with each click and each purchase. Affiliate sites sound perfect but they’re not too easy to link up with as these affiliate companies would always prefer established blogs with stable traffic. Your best for starters, then, is to have Google AdSense. Remember, include only ads that are relevant to your content. Otherwise, those ads may well arrest your your career as a professional blogger even before it has had the chance to begin.

And then you’ll want to get word out about your blog. Promote it on sites like Facebook, Twitter and all those other social network sites where you can also submit your blog to Google, Yahoo or any other search engine. You can even use pinging which is a technique that send alerts all the search engines about the existence of your blog. The service is free as long as you give them a little space to put their ad.

Another way to promote your blog by submitting original articles to directories and linking them all to your blog. You can also comment on other people’s blogs to further increase you backlinks which, by the way, can work miracles when it comes to your blog being indexed by the search engines. When it works this way, you get better search engine ranking, better visibility, higher traffic, more clicks to your blog’s ads and more income.

The whole procedure doesn’t take overnight to produce successful results, on the other hand, so be patient. Keep updating your blog because this is attractive to search engines. The fresher your content, the greater your chance of being indexed and the more people will likely want to keep coming back.

Blogs are the hottest trend sweeping the internet, but have you ever wondered how blogs originated?
